Frog begins to work !!

Hi, This is Frog, she is a Blue Roan Welsh Part-Bred filly that I bought as a foal at a dispersal sale, I paid way over the odds for her and was a total impulse buy.
Well now its time for her to have her education, she was backed at Christmas did a little now and again through out the year but now we have sent her off to be schooled correctly and after only a week the change is remarkable, her head carriage and the way she works is a pleasure to watch.
Again I was fighting the light

Wightlink Raiders Ice Hockey

What a team !! after years of lack luster rubbish it looks like we might have a good team this time, the only weak point and a major one at that is the goalie who is very suspect when under pressure I dought very much he will see the season out.

The whole team are playing to win not just to be numbers on the ice and to nights game which they lost 3-0 was a very close fought affair and two of the goals were very stupid mistakes by the goalie if you want excitement and fast action then go and watch a game.

Lu has finally started to sort out Bob her sec 'C' Welsh Cob, after a year of hard work Bob has started to win and now the rewards are flying in, at the Dorset County Show Bob was the best Welsh sec 'C' in-hand, and now today Bob has won at the Isle of Wight Welsh Pony & Cob Show

This was a sweet moment.
Trying to get the ring onto the finger, they never do go on easy.
Mark was so happy

And Stacy's look says it all.

We all went off to India for this shot.
Never seen a cake like this before absolutely stunning yet very simple.

Reception was at the Bargeman's Rest in Newport we had to dodge the rain for the outside pictures which was a shame.

Another daughter with a non stop grin all day long.

And another daughter who was very shy but soon relaxed and I ended up with a series of lovely images of her.
Mark & Stacey were very unfortunate with the weather so we had no real outside shots but we made up for that at the Bargeman's Rest where I set up some studio lighting and we had fun, They were off to the Bestival for there honeymoon, camping.................. swimming more like I should think.

I think this was one of the more difficult weddings to shoot with the restrictions on places to shoot but I am very happy with the results and cant wait to see there faces when I give them there images and disc's.

Now you can see all the pressure has gone.

Thats it we have done it.
They were so keen to get outside I had to ask them to stop so that I could get the shot.
I that a wink at me or just the bright sunlight?

I dragged them off to the beach for a few shots by them selfs, its always nice to get a few with none of the bridal party in the way.

Lovely looking cake.
I kept trying all day to get a good picture of the flower girl but this is the only one that I liked.
Brides dad I think he has watched the Godfather to much....... a smashing bloke though.

All in all it was a very nice day, and very lucky with the weather, the couple were not used to having pictures taken of them selfs but I think they enjoyed the experience by the time I finished.

Went to school with the singer he recognized me I never had a clue who he was, Nigel Leppard of the band Riptide they were fantastic.

Sam and Lu with the joint birthday cake Sam as 22 a few months ago and Lu's 21 and it was our 25 wedding anniversary as well.

Lu and the cow jumping for the first time for a long, Bonnie looks as if she is having fun.

These might be almost 3' but she is clearing them by miles. This Grey was jumping the smaller coarse I don't know who the rider is but I do like Grey's.
Stupid little jump really but at least its jumping them.

Bob & Blossom go to The Royal Welsh Show

Well Jen & Lucinda have traveled to their yearly outing at the Royal Welsh show and on Monday Blossom our Filly part bred had a very good day coming 3rd out of 7 in the Hunter class which seeing as she is a sport horse type was excellent.
In the afternoon she was in a very large class of 42 in the Sport Horse and came 4th beating a lot of very well known peoples horses .

Tuesday and its Bobs time to excel him self in a class of 39 in the in-hand sec 'C' class and bob came 15th and was reserve champion gelding, all of Lucinda's hard work during the winter has started to pay off and next year should be even better, so much for some folk saying he was un trainable :-) Blossom had a bad day through no fault of her own !! and came no where in the part-bred class still she beat the winner on Monday buts its the judge on the day that matters

Thursday Bob has two more classes so fingers crossed and he keeps his cool :-)

Bob wins Gelding Champion we always thought he was a champ, Also with Bob in the last picture is our Yearling Filly Blossom, she is not at all ready yet to be shown properly but she came for the experience and ended up wining Part-Bred Yearling & Best Island Bred so that was a nice surprise, and she went very well for my daughter Lucinda who is showing our horses this year,and showing them very well at that.

Irish Setter Pups

Ha, fat contented pups with full belly's fast asleep, We have #5 for sale and they will cost you £600 each which when you look a the pedigree is a bargain, having bred and shown Irish Setters we have obviously looked very critically at these pups and they are all very nice it is going to be so hard choosing which one we want to keep.

Frog is a stunning 3yr old Welsh Part-Bred filly that I bought as a foal from the Penstrumbly Stud. As you can see she is a fantastic looking Blue Roan, she moves and covers the ground with ease and jumps for the fun of it, all the other horses will canter around an obstacle in the field she will go over it, in my wifes opinion Frog will make a fantastic working hunter pony who should compete to the highest level.

She has been backed in the spring then turned away for a couple of months we are now putting in the ground work for the basic lessons.

Venus our Red Setter has her Pups.

Venus after five yrs of us trying to have pups from her has at last done it........ 7 lovely red pups

4 boys & 3 girls.

The top image is Vee belting around our fields like a demon dog :-) doing what red setters do best which is having fun.

And then we have the contented mum, with her red wrigglies.

Wow what a Fathers day I had, getting shot by what they called "SOFT BALL" What the hell is soft about it? pokes my head around a tree and some clever dick shoots me in the chin just under the mask that I had been given to wear " I said oww nasty man " if you believe that then you don't know me.

But I must say that I had fun trying to take pictures of them all and even more fun playing at war games in the afternoon, The people are really nice and friendly and the dedication to realism is fantastic.

Jenny Wren

Ok this little lady is a Wren the second smallest bird in the UK in total about 1.5" or so.She has built a nest in one of our barns where the roofing sheets meet the steels, I had to set up the tripod then tether the 40d to the laptop with about 20' usb cable to the laptop, the idea was to get her in mid flight as she entered the nest, over 100 shots later and I gave up I could not get her in flight but any ways here is a nice perched shot. she is about 15' from the camera 200mm f11 125 M direct flash which after the first couple of flashs never bothered her.wilky

Making a promise to each other.

I managed to get the ring shot with no person in the way.

I just liked this one for the matching juice and wall colours.

Changed where I shoot at Northwood now this seems much better for photographs.

This has to be the first garter shoot that has been asked for, I did need some persuading to do it !!

Bloody birds fly to fast.

Groom wants a beer it must be opening time !

I love to take close cropped shots.

This shot had been planned in advanced and it worked almost as I wanted it too.

I boosted the colours just a little........... well a lot .

The cake shot not bad but they always put the cakes in the worst possible place for us photographers.

This wedding of Lee & Rebecca's had to be photography wise one of the easiest that I have shot, the people were wonderful, the B&G were happy to try things out with out worrying about the guests, we had a really good time at the beach in Seaview, and along the sea wall.

So thank you Lee & Rebecca and all of your guests for giving me such an easy wedding to shoot.

Fun Time with the Gosling's

Jen & I went to seaview to have a look at the venue for my next wedding ( next Friday ) and I am really looking forward to it as it will give us so many opportunity's for some fantastic images,

if I can get the bride and groom away on their own for 30 minutes or so.

On the way home we stopped off at Subways for my favorite ...BMT with honey mustard..

Yum, yum, which we ate by the canoe lake and I just could not resist photographing the Canada Geese with their young ahhhh cute.

Ball Room Dancers ( IWDIG )

We all went to Landgaurd Manor for a foto shoot organized by Gary @ IWDIG , the ballroom dancers wanted some promo pictures, well these are not those images but while the other photographers were getting the shoot done I had fun taking the shots that I wanted.

The first three are conventional posed shots (yuk ) but the others were all taken as the dancers went through parts of the dances that they do. The last 5 images were all shot with a 50mm 1.4 canon lens and mostly at f1.4 which is why all of the crops are tight as we ran out of leg room.

Our camera club had a photo session with a local dance group on Wednesday evening, and it was complete chaos with too many chiefs shouting instructions so I do apologize in advance for the boring posing. I just stood back a took the shots that I liked and these are a few of them, my big disappointment are the back lighted shots I messed those right up it is something I have to try to do better at.

Isle of Wight Welsh Pony & Cob.

We went to the County Show Ground for a little fun to day, the last time we went out with the frog ( 1st pony ) we provided the entertainment for the spectators but this time she was a perfect angel we were placed 2nd & 4th which we were pleased with.

Lucinda my daughter showed Bob ( 2nd pony ) and she was very pleased to gain a 3rd with him as he is not really a show pony he is a jumping & hunting pony who is rather excitable.

The third pony is Mrs Cob or Annie we had a disappointing first run up for the judge as Annie exploded and I could not keep up ( too fat?) then we did a nice individual display but we stayed well down the line much to my amazement as her bad manners were nothing compared to what we had to watch !!

The next three pictures are just a few that were taken for my own amusement.

Wedding picture for the County Press

Here it is this is the picture that has been chosen to go into the county press as the couples wedding picture, the bride really wanted the sea and resort in the back ground and as you can see there was not much of a view to work with.

There is a little too much sky but a tighter crop then interferes with the trees so I decided this was the best it could be.

I like it and better still so do the bride and groom.

Brickfields Show 20th April

Lucinda went to this show to use it as a practice as she has been giving the Cow a few weeks off and surprise surprise she came second.

We almost never made it as I think the entries were low on some classes, and when we got to the grounds in what we thought was plenty of time we found the class was just starting so it was a little rushed to say the least.

The Cow was very well behaved and Lu seemed to get her to work well so all in all it was a good practice session.

If you look at the Cows legs they are covered in shite I was not very impressed I spent ages washing them booted her up and what does she do ............ gets off the lorry and craps all down the back legs, and they wonder why I don't like her!!

If you click on the image to make it full size then you will see the quality of my new camera, it is stunning, the image was taken with a Canon 40D with a 70-200 2.8L Canon Lens and this will be the standard of all my images this year.

Isle of Wight Grand National & Ashy Scurry

10 Hours after the post below this one

This morning we had a blizzard and this afternoon we have sun and light winds which have gone from N-E to W and it has really warmed up, it is a really screwed up spring :-)

Just look at the difference in the pictures, still the Scurry will be held next Sunday which will be fun.

Today myself, Jen and Sam n Lucinda have all had a very nice Sunday carvery at the

Chequers Inn at Rookley Young Trish and Claire joined us as well and I think the whole pub thought that a troupe of escapes from the loony bin had arrived and I can honestly say that I have never had so much to eat for such a cheap price, and it tasted superb also the ice cold Guinness was SMOOOOTH.......

SNOW ??? its April!

Wow got to bed late last night as we had a very good photo evening at the Channel View Hotel at Shanklin taking portrait images of a dinner party totaling 80 or so people from Kent. We were using our new mobile studio lights for the first time and what fantastic lighting they gave I am really looking forward to our booked weddings when we will be able to use them for the formals.
Anyway woke up got every thing ready to go and photograph the IW Scurry as we are the official photographer opened the front door into a blizzard........... excuse me its April and its not the 1st :-) turned out that the Scurry has been canceled until next Sunday so watch this Blog for lots of fantastic jumping pictures as Children and Adults have fun over the jumps and don't forget the best pictures ( 2006 Scurry pictures ) will be at http://www.wightphotography.com/ and ALL PROFIT from image sales go to the Scurry organizers to help pay for this fantastic event.

I don't know who made these images in Adobe Photoshop but I am very envious of there skills

The tea drinker image alone is very good but the Ps skills putting the horses heads in the hair was superb.

N P S 23 Easter Show

Went to the N P S 23 Show on Sunday I had a lovely time taking pictures for the fun of it, the show was really well supported and run very well so well done to the club.

We never entered any of our horses as both Jen & Lu had work and I'm too lazy to get a horse ready to show, although only one of our Part-Breds is looking in show condition at this moment in time and thats Frog who has just started to be ridden.

Don't you just love computers..... I do as they make my images look the best, as you can see a plain snap can be made to look that little bit extra and make the most of the image.

All that been done is a bit of spot and mole removal, blurring of the background and running the image through Lightroom with a few image processing actions to get this B/W with brown high lights portrait picture. OH and I also slightly squashed his face top to bottom to give it a more square as opposed to long look ( its called artistic license honest ).

Never trust a picture of mine :-) ha, ha, we can do body enhancements & reductions much cheaper than Harley Street !

Bloody cold carrage driving

I have not taken many pictures of Carriage Driving so of I went to Lake Farm wrapped up in about three fleeces and my shooting coat to take pictures of these mad people.

It was actually very nice watching the ponies react to voice commands as to when to turn and such stuff, I always thought that you cracked um with a great big whip and shouted "yee haa"

................... OK too many John Wayne films :-) ............

Blossom wins IWWP&CA Youngstock Champion.

Blossom won the Youngstock Championship for 2007 its another result to add to her major wins she had at various mainland shows

Blossom also tied joint first for overall Welsh Part-Bred Champion with our other Part-Bred Gem who just happens to be Blossoms mother, and what really makes it special for us is that we bred both Gem & Blossom.

Some thing Different

I had the chance to use a studio on Wednesday night so I managed to persuade my daughter Lucinda and Sam one of our livery's to model for me, as you can see they turned out surprisingly well Considering I have never done this type of photography.

I do have to give a massive thank you to a friend who helped with the composition so thanks Ian.

Riding Club show at Lake Farm this Sunday

I had a morning taking images at Lake Farm today at an Isle of Wight Riding Club event, it was a very low key show being Mothers Day but some very nice horses were competing as you can see.

Helena's Birthday Bash

I had a very enjoyable couple of hours photographing
Helena's birthday party on Sunday, and here she is with her two sons.

It was very interesting for the fact that Helena had her guests recall things that had impressed them over their lifetime and some of the recollections were very thought provoking.

group in the space of 15' when your lens will only go to 17mm we got it though with bounced flash as well.

And we even managed a glamor shot which was a candid shot with the canon 70-200 2.8 lens as she was talking to her friend.

Stonehenge

Well we went off to look at some new stables on the mainland with a view to having them and on the way back we stopped at Stonehenge, there must have been about 200 Germans, Jap's & all sorts of foreign people there and us, and what a disappointment when I was a little boy (only a few years ago ) we climbed all over the stones now you can not get near them.

Any ways here is a five shot merged image of the stones which worked out quite well as they were taken hand held.

Countryman Hunt Meet

What a lovely sunny day , which made it a very nice day to photograph for my own pleasure.

The Isle of Wight Fox Hounds ( http://www.iwfoxhounds.com/ ) meet was at the Countrymans at Brighstone where all the riders and supporters were given hot bacon baguettes and drinks.

I then set off up onto the downs to await the hunt at the only good jump that my poor old van could get to, and that was nearly a disaster as a puddle turned into a moat which was so deep I had water inside the foot well ( not to sure what "love chick" the boss will say ) anyway here are a few jumping shots

The Two Lucindas

Finished work then a fast drive from Shanklin to Lake Farm and I managed to watch the end of the training session given by Lucinda Green.

But what made it even better was the fact that my daughter Lu was in the class on her new horse ( a black & White thing that I call the COW ) but what most people that know myself and the better half Jen don't realize is that Lu was named after Lucinda Green who was a hero of Jen when Jen competed at x-country on her grey hunter Lincoln.

I bet you really wanted to know that :-)

Were back having traveled up to Gretna Green to photograph the wedding of Steve & Emma, a really nice & loving couple who both work for the Army in

The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery

The service was held in a huge church The Anvil Hall, which had to be the worst I have ever been to for light.

This meant I had to use flash on the camera, but the roof was so high it could not be bounced so it was direct flash with huge shadows but we got the job done.

Emma & Steve having been married by the Minister, watch as the Anvil is being struck which used to signify the marriage was official.

All the nerves have now gone

They had a horse & carriage to the hotel

Here we have the groom, grooms best mate who was the ring bearer, brides farther a Sargent in I think the rifles? just back from Iraq

And this is just confirming who is going to be the boss and its not looking like Dolby!!

Going to Gretna Green on Thursday to shoot a wedding, this will be our first wedding in a foreign country :-)

Its a long way to go an 800 mile round trip but we don't turn down any shoots and it should be fun as they might have snow which will give me some different images for the web site.

It was a very nice day for January, a little sun, some clouds and very warm for which I was very grateful as my son & daughter have infected me with " MAN Flu" and walking up the bloody great hill was very hard.......................

Bob goes to Church on Christmas Day

Bob & Lucinda decided to go to church on Christmas day, so off they set from our yard at Chillerton, past the Hunt kennels and onto Carisbrooke where they then set off down the mall and into Newport.

Bob & Lu arrived nice and early for the church service at St Thomas Church, but bob was a little upset that the fairy lights were not lighting up the Christmas tree for him.

Into the church we go bob loved the organ but ate all the hay in the manger........ bad bob........

After the service bob went to find the Mayor at the Guildhall as he was most upset about the Christmas tree lights :-) then it was off to see the nannies before the slave ( dad ) picked them up in the horse box.

Time really flies it only seems like yesterday that a bunch of us went to Wales and returned with two foals, one yearling and a TB mare. Well the one that we have kept from that lot was not even supposed to be bought but I saw it, I wanted it, Jen (wife ) called it a chocolate tea pot and what the hell do we want her for gave in and let me bid for it.

Jen then was not happy at the price I paid :-) and was even less impressed when I named her
FROG, we had a very long trip home of 9hrs kept them all in for a while for worming and stuff ,then we all had our eyes out on stalks as this little grey thing bombed around the field like possessed lunatic then when all the other horses ran around the clumps of nettles frog just jumped them all for fun Jen then started to like her.

Any way here is

As you can see Frog is a blue roan with lots of bone and masses of heart room.
We walked her with my self holding a rope clipped to the bit and Lu on board around the farm lanes and fields a ride of about 1.5 miles and Frog was a star.

Boxing Day Meet

Wow time flies and here we are again Boxing Day Meet, not at the castle this year but across the road next to the Nunnery, I actually enjoyed the field where they met as the view was outstanding with lots of room for people to stand about in.

The numbers of riders was very good which did surprise me as I thought that the meets had been poorly attended lately and the supporters were in the high hundreds which is excellent.

I also heard that a large sum of money was raised for charity so a very large well done to the Hunt supporters committee for that.

These Hounds are such deadly killers............ NOT they are better behaved than most house hold dogs as you can see from the image.

Looking forward to the New Years Day meet now at Gotten Lease, which should give me some jumping pictures which is what I realy like to shoot. It sorts out the photographers who can make the shot :-) Well I some times get it right.
